Francis questions the traditions of figurative painting by exploring scale, colour and mark-making; producing larger than life canvases together with smaller works, all of which can be said to evoke connotations from an audience.
Reynold's practice can be seen to be quite destructive in as far as process. However, it can be said that the passive/aggressive nature of the paintings lends themselves to the very nature of the human condition.
Reynold's outcomes strive to question and reinvigorate the subject; its historical and contemporary context. Together with consolidating ideas of deconstruction; an act of taking apart and rebuilding. This may also highlight the deconstruction of conventions and what is expected from representational painting.
